He listened silently to the squirrel's answer, but could hear the annoyance in his voice. He looked down a little and just continued walking. He didn't say anything else, figuring Sarin wanted to be quiet for a while. He looked down at Fenrir and smiled softly as he held his child, stroking him softly.
Fenrir mewed softly, then opened his eyes and looked up at his father. The baby smiled and looked over at Sarin. He saw that Sarin was upset about something and mewed, reaching out and playfully swatting at the fur on his ear. He wanted Sarin to be happy. Why was he sad? That couldn't be right. He shouldn't be sad!

Sarin smiled at Fenrir and ruffled the fur on his head. Sarin felt a little guilty about getting angry when Fenrir was here. The question had offended very slightly but not overly so. Sure, he had a crush but had never been in love. Other beasts had experienced it but he hadn’t found a squirrel maid that he liked.
“Hope you had fun, little’un. Rest well. See you soon,” said Sarin. The last part was to Ioalus. He smiled and embraced Ioalus awkwardly. He then went back to the door, giving the snow leopards a small smile, and then went inside, shutting the door.

Fenrir mewed and swiped playfully at Sarin's hands, glad he'd cheered up at least a little. When Sarin started inside, Fenrir meowed and hopped from his father's arms, running after his friend. He wanted Sarin to be happy and it was obvious that the little cub did that. Ioalus blinked a little, then smiled and let his son go play with the squirrel. He turned and started out of the Abbey, deciding to go see if anyone had any jobs he could do to help them out.
Fenrir tackled Sarin's tail, playing with the fur as he walked, running after him every step, He wanted to make his new friend happy and the only way he knew to do that was to play.

Sarin felt somebeast playing with his tail. He turned to see Fenrir crawling with it. He chuckled and picked up the cute little Dibbun. He tickled Fenrir under his chin.
“How did you out of your Da’s grip, eh? No matter, I’ll just have to play with some more,” said Sarin. The red squirrel then told a Redwaller where he’d be if anybeast needed him before dashing to his room. He placed Fenrir on his bed before going to his table where his poisons were. The red squirrel stacked his herbs and then placed them in a box, locking them. He then turned to Fenrir. “Now, what game shall we play, hm?”

Fenrir mewed and swatted playfully at Sarin's finger as he tickled his chin, the child grinning as Sarin decided to play with him. Once in the room, Fenrir was deposited on the bed and he looked around, then mewed and started playing with wrinkles in the blanket. When Sarin started gathering things up, Fenrir cocked his head to the side, his ears perking up in interest. When Sarin asked what they should do, he looked up at the Squirrel. "What stuff in box?" The words were slow, but deliberate. The Dibbun was learning speech quickly as he got more and more practice. He liked talking to others, he found.

Sarin wasn’t in the least surprised that Fenrir had asked him what was in the box. He smiled, clutched the box and then took it over to the cub. The box had intricate design and seemed to hold a certain amount of mysteriousness to it. The red squirrel opened it, revealing herbs and powders. Different powders were different compartments, in order of deadliness while the leaves were in a pile.
“I'm a Poisonmaster, Fenrir. I deal with poisons that can hurt beasts, not good beasts – vermin mainly, and other bad beasts. I mix these herbs to make powders and other herbs in order to make poisons,” said Sarin, watching the Fenrir to see how he’d react. He didn’t want to scare the poor little beast.

Fenrir listened as Sarin explained what he was and what the herbs were for. The cub cocked his head to the side and examined the contents, making sure not to get too close, as Sarin was obviously being careful. He looked up, then looked back down at the box. "Why you do this?" He looked up at Sarin, his tail swishing slowly side to side. He wasn't frightened in the least. He understood it all and was even more curious. What would lead Sarin to a life choice like this?

Wow. Who knew that a Dibbun could be so curious. While the red squirrel decided on how to explain to the cub, he snapped the lid and put it back on the table. He then sat back down next to the cub. He put the snow leopard cub on his lap and began to stroke the back of his head. He sighed and then looked down.
“It’s my job, little one. I do it so that I can keep the Dibbuns like you safe from harm. Now, let’s see if we can’t get some clothes for you,” said the red squirrel, who then plonked Fenrir down on the bed. He gestured for the cub to stay there while he got a small brown robe for him. He then dashed to his robe and held out the robe for Fenrir to see.

He closed his eyes and leaned into Sarin's hand as he stroked the cub's fur. He listened to Sarin's explanation and smiled a little, nuzzling the squirrel gently. "I glad. Feel safe with you." He smiled up at Sarin, then sat back and cocked his head to the side as Sarin mentioned clothes. When he held the robe up, his ears perked up again. "I try on?" He wanted to go over and take it from Sarin so he could try it, but he'd been told to stay put, so he did.

Sarin smiled and kneeled in front of the cub. He smoothed out crinkles on the robe and flapped it away from the cub, trying to get dust off it. He then gently explained to Fenrir how to stand on his hind legs and advised the cub to hold onto him. He then slipped the robe over him and smoothed it out a little.
“There now. How does it feel?” asked Sarin, who had hold of the cub in case he fell. He thught about teaching Fenrir how to walk soon.

He watched as Sarin shook the dusty robe out, then slowly, awkwardly stood so he could put it on. He smiled a little as he looked down at the robe. "Feels good. Thank you, Sarin." He wrapped his arms around Sarin's neck in a hug, then let go and tried to take a couple wobbly steps, but instantly fell back onto his tail with a little 'oof'.

Sarin chuckled and embraced Fenrir quickly before watching the little one attempting to walk. He picked up the cub and stood up, holding the cub’s paw. Holding the cub’s two paws, Sarin walked to where the desk before stopping. He wanted to teach Fenrir how to behave properly while still being a Dibbun. He hoped that the cub never experienced hardships in his youth. Sarin had experienced and had spent most of his teenage seasons running away. He didn’t want that for Fenrir.
Sarin then went back to the bed, all the while holding Fenrir’s paws and encouraging him. Sarin then sat down and watched to see if Fenrir would walk on his own.

He looked up at Sarin and smiled, taking his hands, his steps slow and clumsy as he was led across the length of the bed and back. When Sarin let go, he stood for a moment, then slowly moved his feet, starting to walk slowly back to the other side of the bed. He grinned a little and looked up at Sarin, then turned and started back over. He was still a little clumsy and awkward, but he was already getting better. He sat back down and smiled up at Sarin. "I like it." His tail swished happily back and forth as he spoke.

Sarin walked Fenrir across the length of the bed. He took it slow and was pleased when Fenrir had completed the task. The Dibbun was quite a fast learner. Sarin smiled and ruffled the baby snow leopard’s head. He liked this Dibbun. Maybe he could teach Fenrir some basic poisons, or would that be corrupting his mind too early thought Sarin. Yea, it would. Fenrir needed time to have fun and be a regular Dibbun – who knows; maybe Ioalus and Fenrir could live here one day. That would be good – Redwall would have their first Snow Leopard residents.
“Would you like to meet some of the other Dibbuns? I'm sure you’d get on with them,” Sarin didn’t think that Fenrir had friends outside the Abbey. After all he had found Ioalus passed out near the abbey. He stood up but waited for Fenrir – wanting to give the babe the choice.

Fenrir grinned as Sarin led him across the bed, his steps becoming more sure with each movement. He looked up at Sarin and grinned as his fur was ruffled. He mewed a little and took Sarin's paw affectionately. Then came the offer to meet more Dibbuns and his ears perked up in interest and he grinned, nodding. He toddled over to the edge of the bed and looked over, then lay down on his stomach and stretched a leg down over the edge. He tried to reach with his foot, but it was just out of reach. He mewed a little and let go, plopping on the ground with a little 'oof'. He stood, holding onto the blanket for support, and rubbed his tail a little. Looking up at Sarin, he grinned and started toddling over to the Squirrel. Reaching up, he took Sarin's hand for support, following his friend out the door.
"Where are they?"
