Ioalus knelt in the graveyard beside a flowering tree. A trowel sat beside him as he stared at something in his hand. It was a lock of hair as white as the snow and as soft as silk. As he stared at it, a tear rolled down his cheek and he closed his hand around it, holding it close to his heart. Fenrir was wandering through the grave markers, chasing insects and leaves as his father knelt silently. He didn't know what his father was doing, and that was how Ioalus wanted it. When the Dibbun grew up, he would be told about his mother. But for now, Ioalus kept his pain from the eyes and ears of his son.
"I miss you my love. There isn't a single day that passes without my heart aching. We are in a safe place now. They won't find us here. Our son is safe. He's happy. I know you would want it this way."
He opened his hand and gently lay the lock of hair in the small hole he'd dug beside the marker. Reverently, he covered it with soil and closed his eyes before lifting his eyes to the marker he'd asked for. It was simple wood, carved with a heart design on it with the name inside. 'Semera'. He rest his hand on the name as he smiled softly, just staring as he remembered his time with her, not even noticing as someone approached behind him.

Sierra, was looking for wild flowers to gather for Father's grave. She was being very picky about the flowers she was choosing though. Sierra was looking for the flowers her Father had loved. He had loved the pretty white ones. He once said the white flowers reminded him of her whenever he had to go off to work. Sierra, looked around with a serious expression on her face. She wanted the best white flowers she could find for her Father. After a few minutes she found the flowers she saw as perfect. With a satisfied look on her face as she looked at the flowers she had in her small paws with a smile. She then turned and started down to the cemetery.
As she walked down the path she enjoyed how pleasant the day is and how lovely things smelt, Sierra loved it when all the flowers where in bloom. Made everything look so pretty. Sierra now smiled a little as she came to the cemetery she saw a large male snow Leopard. Large to her anyway she is just a little squirrel. Sierra froze when she saw the snow leopard for a few minutes but after watching him she started to relax. She could tell that the snow Leopard was sad and now she wanted to see if she could help him.
Gathering up the courage she started to walk over to the snow Leopard and noticed that he was kneeling down next to a grave maker. Sierra wondered who had died in his family... As she got closer she noticed he looked very strong and got bigger as she got closer. But she did not think she needed to fear him. They where in Redwall after all. Now Sierra was behind the snow Leopard and again gathering up some courage she spoke. " Umm... Sir? Are you ok?" The little squirrel asked calmly as she waited for the snow Leopard's reply.

Ioalus stared silently at the name carved in the wood, a tear rolling down his cheek as he traced the letters gently with his fingers. His time with his love had been short, but wonderful, and he held those memories close to his heart. He would never forget her smile, the glint in her eyes when she told him she was with child, the way she laughed when she first felt the baby kick. His thoughts were interrupted by a quiet voice and he turned, looking at the owner. She was a squirrel, smaller than Sarin, so she must be younger than he. But she wasn't a Dibbun. He looked back at the marker, thinking about her question. After a moment, he closed his eyes and sighed a little.
"Yes. At least, I will be."
He sat back, his tail wrapping around him as he stared at the marker a few more moments, then turned and sat to look at the young squirrel.
"My name is Ioalus."
He held his hand out to her, making his movement slow enough that he wouldn't startle her. As he did, there came a small mew from one of the bushes and Fenrir jumped out, landing on his father's tail like it was a prize. Ioalus smiled and looked back at Sierra.
"And this is my son, Fenrir."

Sierra watched the snow leopard as he looked at the marker and saw him trace the name 'Semera' that was on the grave marker. She must have been very important to him... She started to wonder what happened the one buried here but it was not her place to ask. Then when the snow leopard turned around to look at she did not shrink back but smiled a little. She looked into his eyes as he looked at her and she just swayed her bushy tail side to side. She waited when the snow leopard looked back at the marker and closed his eyes sat down. When he said that he would be fine she tilted her head off to one side and gave a sad look. Normally when people said that they where in deep pain.
When he introduced him self as Ioalus, Sierra smiled and when he offered his hand she held out hers without even hesitating and put her hand in his and shook his hand. " My name is Sierra. Its nice to meet you Ioalus." Sierra said with a sweet smile and took her hand out of Ioalus's. Then she heard a mew and she looked around wondering where the sound came from. That's when she saw a Dibbun snow Leopard jump out of the bushes but she did not scream in shock or anything. In fact she smiled. He was the cutest thing she has ever seen. Even though he was somewhat bigger then she was.
Then when Ioalus said that was his son Fenrir. Sierra could not help but smile bigger, he was so cute! She then waved to Fenrir, " nice to meet you too Fenrir." She said happily. Then Sierra from where she stood she started to look around for her Father's grave marker. It was not that far away from where Ioalus's loved one was buried. She looked back at Ioalus with a sad look in her own pink eyes. " If you will excuse me Ioalus sir, I would like to give these flowers to my Father.." Sierra said softly and she slowly started to walk over to her Father's grave.

Ioalus smiled as Sierra introduced herself. He was glad the beasts here were so accepting of him. He knew most of the ones here hadn't even heard of Snow Leopards, and given the fact he was nearly a foot taller than a badger, more than a few of the beasts at Redwall had initially been afraid of him. Then when she grinned at Fenrir's appearance, he knew he was going to like Sierra. Fenrir lift his head at the sound of a new voice saying his name and he grinned, waving back at her.
"Hi!"
His short greeting over, he turned and ran back into the bushes, stumbling a little over his robe as he did. Fenrir was learning to walk upright, yes, but he was just so used to walking on all fours that he usually reverted to that while playing. Ioalus watched his son run off to play and smiled affectionately after the Dibbun. When Sierra said she wanted to give the flowers to her father, he nodded in understanding and turned to watch Fenrir playing, giving the young squirrel some privacy.

Sierra looked back at the cute Dibbun when he said hi and nodded at him before looking back at Ioalus. Seeing understanding in his eyes made her feel good but sad at the same time. Losing a loved one would be hard for anyone.... Sierra again then started to walk over to her Father's grave. As she got closer she started to tear up, every time she came her she was reminded each time how much she missed her Father... But she never wanted to forget him. So the pain and sadness was worth it to always remember him. Now she was at her Father's grave his name "Eallard" carved into it along with the words. " Beloved husband and Father" Under his name.
Before setting the flowers she found down in front of the marker Sierra picked up the dead ones and tossed them aside. It has been a little while last time she had visited her Father and she needed to clean it up a little. She pulled up some weeds and some other things and tossed them aside before setting the pretty snow white flowers down in front of her Father's grave marker. The tears now started to overflow in her pink eyes and she tried to dry them as she knelt down. " Hello, Father.... Sorry I have not come to visit in a while. Mother is doing better.. But I still can't get her to come see you.. The pain still must be to great for her.. said the young squirrel her voice wavering.
She stopped talking and just looked at the grave marker remembering the time with her father although it was short it was one of the best times in her young life. Then Sierra started to remember the stories he had told her and how they used to play together. She smiled a little and again tried to dry her eyes. " Some day Father... I will leave this place and be a explorer.... I will see the world... That means I wont be able to see you when that happens but I know you will always be with me.." Sierra said in a whisper hoping Ioalus would not hear what she just said. No one knew she was wanting to leave. She had the feeling everyone would stop her if they ever found out.
After a few minutes of looking at her Father's grave maker she stood up dusted her self off and dried her eyes again. She looked back at Ioalus, she started to walk back over to him. She walked over beside him and looked at the bushes where she last saw Fenrir and smiled. " Fenrir, is cute." She said with a smile as she looked up at Ioalus. " I wish I had a cute little Dibbun for a little sister or a brother." Thinking how fun it would be if she had younger siblings.

Ioalus sat silently, watching Fenrir as he played. Sarin wanted to teach Fenrir everything he knew, wanted to help the child grow up. Ioalus understood why Sarin wanted to do so, but Ioalus wanted his son to remain the kitten he was now. He wanted Fenrir's innocence to last as long as possible. The kitten looked up and mewed, running up and landing in his father's lap. Ioalus smiled softly and stroked his son's fur, hugging the Dibbun close as tears rolled down his cheek. Fenrir purred and wrapped his arms around his father's neck as best he could, the two sitting like that for a while as Sierra visited her father's grave.
After a bit, Ioalus managed to let his son go and set him down on the grass. Fenrir smiled up at his father and started chasing a bug in the grass. At Sierra's comment, Ioalus looked over and smiled a little bit, looking over at Fenrir as he played.
"I'm sure he would love having a sibling too. But until we came here, I was the only person he'd ever even met."
He stared at his son as the little Dibbun rolled on his back and tossed a leaf into the air. Ioalus stared silently at his son, smiling a little as he saw a little of his wife in their child. Closing his eyes, he took a shaky breath and wiped his eyes.

Sierra looked at Ioalus as he spoke and said that he would think his son would have liked a sibling too. Then a idea came to her head that made her smile. Sierra then looked at Fenrir her pink eyes lighting up. It was kinda far off but it seemed like a fun and good idea... Even though she has just met Ioalus and Fenrir she wanted be their new best friend. Seeing that Ioalus just said Fenrir never met anyone new till coming here she wanted to be his friend all the more! Sierra though caught her self and shook her head. She then looked at Ioalus and smiled a sweet smile. Ioalus Sir, I....I Know I have just met you both but.. I....I Would like to be both your friends. A.....A...And hopfully be..." Sierra pused and looked down at the ground and started to blush a little. Be... Like a older sister to Fenrir?" She asked softly looking a little shy now. She now waited for a reply and hoped she could be friends with both Ioalus and Fenrir.

Ioalus watched Fenrir play with a sad smile, wiping small tears away as he thought about how life would be if his mating had been accepted by their people. Fenrir would be playing in the snow now if it had been. Then again, they wouldn't have the wonderful friends they had now in the Redwallers. His thoughts were broken as Sierra started to speak and he looked down at her, smiling as she spoke. She offered to be like a big sister to Fenrir and he looked over at his son, a smile growing on his face as he thought about it. After a moment, he nodded a little and looked back down at her.
"That sounds wonderful, Sierra."
he lowered his head a little as he thought for a moment, glancing over at the grave marker for her father, then back down at her. he reached down and gently took her hand.
"In that case... maybe I could be like a father to you."
She was a wonderful young beast and even though they'd just met, he liked her very much. She'd lost her squirrel father. Maybe since she's getting a brother, she should get a new father too.

Sierra started to play nervously with her paws as she waited for Ioalus's answer. She hoped she was not being to forward she learned from her mother that it was rude to do that. But she just really liked the idea of being a older sister to Fenrir. Sierra looked up a little at Ioalus as he seemed to be thinking over the idea of her being like a older sister to Fenrir. She started feel good when Ioalus started to smile and looked up at him all the way to meet up with his eyes. She even started smile a little thinking he would say yes. Then when he nodded and said that sounds wonderful. Sierra wanted to jump and yell for joy but she kept hold of her self as her body started to tremble with excitement. " Really?? I can be like his older sister??" She asked happily.
Sierra then blinked and tilted her head when Ioalus lowered his head and seemed to be thinking about something. When he looked over at her Father's grave marker she looked to then back at him when Ioalus looked back at her even took her paw into his. Then to her shock he offered to be like a Father to her. Her red eyes widened a little and she become speechless. She looked up at Ioalus not knowing what to say. But after a few minutes she smiled and nodded. " I... I would like that Sir Ioalus." She said softly. She thought about her real dad and knew he would not mind.. As for her Mother?? She did not think she would mind ether. Sierra took out her paw out of Ioalus's and jumped up to hug him.

Her happiness brought a smile to his lips as she started to tremble. He could tell she was restraining herself, though he didn't know why. Then he made his offer to her and he waited for her response. He waited patiently, not wanting to rush a decision of this magnitude. Though she didn't seem to be thinking about it. Mostly she seemed to just be shocked. Then she said she'd like it, calling him Sir. He chuckled a little and stroked her fur the same way he stroked Fenrir's, filled with love.
"Call me Ioalus if you like. But I hope someday you'll be able to call me Father."
As she jumped up into his arms, he laughed a little and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close in a tight, but gentle hug. Fenrir lift his head in interest and mewed, running over to the two and looking up at them.
"Dada?"
Ioalus looked down at Fenrir and smiled softly, gently setting sierra down before speaking.
"Fenrir, you have a new big sister. This is Sierra."
Fenrir's ears perked forward in curiosity and he stood up on his hind legs, walking shakily over to the squirrel. He looked up at her and grinned, then wrapped his arms around her waist and hugged her.
"Sirra!!!!"

Sierra looked up at Ioalus as he petted her and she closed her eyes and smiled. Ioalus now reminded her about her real Father... He was caring and loving just like Ioalus seems to be. And that brought tears to her eyes. Its been a very long time when she felt the love of a caring Father.. Her Mother showed her love yes but it was not like the love she felt from her Father.. When she jumped up hug him and Ioalus hugged her she hugged right back tears running down her cheeks. Again she has not felt the loving hug of a Father for a very long time... How she missed it... She has been putting on a brave front about losing her Father and tried not to cry to the sake of her Mother... But all that right now was coming out. For she felt right now it was safe to cry.
When she heard Fenrir's voice she looked down at the Dibbun. Then when Ioalus set her down she wanted to protest but held her tongue and just tried to dry her eyes. When Ioalus said to Fenrir that He now had a new older sister, Sierra looked up at Fenrir and smiled at him. Then when he called out her name and hugged her she smiled and hugged him back. His fur was so soft she loved it." I'm happy to be your older sister Fenrir. I can't wait to get to know you and..." Sierra pused and looked up at Ioalus tearing up with tears of joy. "Ioalus a lot more." she said and meant it. Though it would be a while before she would be able to call Ioalus Father.. For right now that word always made her think of her real Father.

He held her close as they hugged, stroking her white fur gently. He had a daughter. He was building a family. It didn't matter that he and his new daughter were as different as night and day physically. They needed each other. When he set her down, he smiled as he watched Fenrir inspect his new sister, then gleefully hug her. His son was more than happy to accept her as family. He watched as they hugged each other happily. He watched as she looked up at him, smiling softly at the happy tears. He nodded a little as she said his name, obviously unable to call him father now. He understood. He'd wait for her. For now, he reached out and gently touched her shoulder, smiling softly.
"We'll be just as happy to get to know you, Sierra."
Fenrir grinned as his tail flicked back and forth happily. After a moment, he stepped back and crouched on the ground in a playful pose. He knew what siblings were, and he knew what they were for. They were for playing. He reached out and swatted at the hem of her robe before darting into the bushes, trying unsuccessfully to hide from her as his long tail stuck out of the bush.
